Paris vu du Louvre

Le Louvre est LE (bon allez, je vous l'accorde : l'un des ) centre(s) du monde : il attire les visiteurs du monde entier, abrite des oeuvres venues de partout, s'exporte aussi en province ou à l'autre bout de la planète... Regarder Paris depuis le Louvre, c'est comme regarder le monde depuis le petit bout de la lorgnette.

The Louvre is THE (OK, we could say : one of the) worldwild center : visitors are coming from the whole world in the Louvre, where they can admire art works from everywhere on earth ; the Louvre is exporting out of Paris, in Lens, and at the other end of the planet.

D'abord palais du roi Philippe Auguste (1180 - 1223) avant d'être abandonné au profit de Versailles par Louis XIV (v. 1687), il devient un musée des sciences sous la Révolution française (1791) sous le nez du roi qui loge aux Tuleries. Le Louvre n'est déjà plus le centre de la France...même si en 1871, le ministère des finances s'installe dans l'aile Richelieu. Mais durant ces deux siècles, le Louvre devient un des centres culturels du monde au même titre que le Guggenheim, le Prado ou les Offices.

At first, the Louvre was the palace of king Philippe Auguste (1180 - 1223), then abandonned for the palace of Versailles by Louis XVI (1687). It became a museum of sciences during the french revolution (1791) while the king lived in the palace opposite, the Tuileries. In this time, The Louvre has already lost its place of France center, even if in 1871 the finance ministery takes place in the "aile richelieu". But during these two centuries, the Louvre becomes one of the cultural center of the world together with the Guggenheim museum, the Prado or the Office museum.

Bien entendu, comment parler de Paris sans parler de son coeur économique, la Défense (encore ici et là, et en version panoramique), ou de son extension "culturelle", le stade de France à Saint-Denis.
